Historical Architecture, The Gate Lodge 1815

Our Sanctuary will be located on an early Georgian Property set in the ancient Irish countryside, steeped in history, tradition and ancient Irish folklore.

The property includes 5 protected structures of architectural and historical significance.

Let me introduce you to our first one!


A low single-storey structure below
an oversailing shallow hipped roof,
it’s main short whitewashed threebay
front of two high-level latticed
bipartite casement windows and
door to one side recessed behind an
archway, forming a rustic setting area.

Architect William Robertson based his rustic porch on plate 1 of Joseph Gandy’s Designs for Cottages, Cottage Farm & C.

Revd Daniel Augustus commented on a visit in 1819 as the gate lodge being “…very neat Porters lodge all be rosed…”
