Situated on the former Kilfane Demesne estate, Sanctuary is located 4 kilometers outside the center of Thomastown, County Kilkenny, Ireland. As you drive out of the village of Thomastown and onto Dublin Road, on your right-hand side you’ll see the roof of a gatehouse and two large pillars with an iron gate. This is the entrance to Sanctuary. Kilfane House and Caretaker’s Cottage sit in the heart of Sanctuary, while the Glebe is located a short distance away from the main house on the far side of Dublin Road.

Public Transport to Thomastown
Many Sanctuary guests choose to take the train from Dublin to Thomastown. Irish Rail offers reliable train rides from Dublin to Thomastown.
Irish Rail trains leave regularly from Dublin Heuston Station and arrive in Thomastown in about two hours. It’s not unusual for trains to sell out, so be sure to book your tickets in advance. Once at the train station, keep an eye out for the Waterford Train, which is the line that runs through Thomastown.

Car Rental
Renting a car gives you the freedom to enjoy the local towns and sights of Ireland without relying on public transport or taxis.
Please note that Irish roads can be very narrow in the countryside, especially compared to American roads. In Ireland, we drive on the left-hand side of the road with the steering wheel located on the right side of the car. We recommend that guests only rent a car if they are accustomed to driving on Irish roads.
Cars can easily be rented from Dublin or Shannon Airports. Sanctuary is located 2 hours by car from Dublin Airport and 2.5 hours from Shannon Airport.
Book a Taxi From Dublin Airport
Although the journey from Dublin to Sanctuary is almost two hours, some Sanctuary guests prefer to book a taxi from Dublin Airport directly to Thomastown.
