Situated on the former Kilfane Demesne estate in the rolling hills of Thomastown, Ireland, Sanctuary is comprised of 100 acres of ancient forest, organic gardens, and historic structures. Thousands of guests comes here every year from all around the world to relax and find a sense of well-being.
First built in 1705, Kilfane House…
After being abandoned and neglected for decades, the beautiful Georgian-era Kilfane House was transformed into an elegant getaway for rest and renewal.
Today Sanctuary offers a variety of single, double, and shared rooms across our historic properties, including traditional-style rooms at The Glebe, contemporary ensuite rooms at Caretaker’s Cottage, and exquisitely restored Georgian-style rooms with high ceilings and magnificent views at Kilfane House.
Our in-house chef serves 3 daily farm-to-table meals made from ingredients grown in Sanctuary gardens.
The estate sits on 100 acres of untouched open space, ancient forest, rivers, and streams. Guests may freely explore the grounds during their stay and even volunteer to help in the gardens under the direction of a staff member.

Kilfane House
Surrounded by 100 acres of blessed land, Sanctuary’s Georgian-style main house offers a timeless sense of peace to all who visit. With its original fireplaces, staircases, and wooden floorboards dating back 300 years, Kilfane House transports you to a different time and place, hundreds of years into the past. Enjoy the elegant event room, charming pink dining area, period furnishings, and tranquil bedrooms with views of the Irish countryside. All daily meals are prepared by our in-house chef.
Caretaker’s Cottage
Quietly tucked in the courtyard directly beside Kilfane House, Caretaker’s Cottage offers a cozy getaway in the center of Sanctuary. Newly renovated and redesigned, this elegant cottage mixes modern comforts with old world charm, including a full kitchen for guests to utilize as they wish. Only a few steps from Wildflower Tearooms and Sanctuary’s gardens, Caretaker’s Cottage gives you a peaceful place to rest in the heart of Sanctuary.
The Glebe
Located across the lane from Kilfane House, the Glebe is a timeless Georgian home first built in 1807, surrounded by ten acres of peaceful gardens, ancient Irish forest, and blessed land. Enjoy the Glebe’s traditional rooms, delightful country kitchen, cozy library and sitting room, and serene views of Sanctuary. There’s just something special about looking out the window of a country kitchen and seeing the green of Ireland all around you.
The Rose Cottage
Hidden away within the gardens of the Glebe, the Rose Cottage is perhaps the most private and whimsical place to stay on Sanctuary’s grounds. With its playful blue kitchen and bubblegum pink front door, this little cottage makes you feel as if you’ve just stepped into a real-life fairytale. Enjoy the quaint loft bedroom, mini country kitchen, and rose-covered stone exterior.
There is no other place like this in the world. When I come here, I just let go of all my worries and stress, and I know I can be present in the moment and just enjoy.

Sanctuary's garden of abundance.
Here at Sanctuary, we take our gardening very seriously. Our horticulture team grows all our own vegetables in the Georgian walled-garden located just a few steps from Kilfane House. Our harvest changes with the seasons and includes carrots, beets, cabbage, potatoes, radishes, and so much more. Everything we do is sustainable, working in harmony with the land.
The ancient forest where angels gather.
Sanctuary’s forest is sacred and blessed, serving as the setting for many of Lorna’s stories in her books. She has been visited in this forest by Archangel Michael, Archangel Gabriel, Angel Hosus, Angel Jimazen, and many other angels. The next time you find yourself at Sanctuary, take a walk through the ancient forest and say a little prayer.
